Year 6 RAF Rocket Building

On the morning of 16th May, Oaks and Ash Classes were treated to an informative “rocket building” session that Miss Jacobs had kindly organised. It was an amazing experience and I would love to tell you a bit about it. Set Up As many schools around the country also participated in this task, there was an instruction booklet, templates and other resources provided by the RAF previously. To help us with the tasks, there was a YouTube livestream that we could log in to in order to participate. The lady from the RAF engineering team was very helpful and even showed us a bit about her job and what the RAF is actually around to do. Rocket Building Our actual task was to use the force of our breath to propel out handmade “rockets” through the air to see how far they can travel, whilst exploring different trajectories and payloads. The instructions were super clear and the tutorial was so helpful as well as the templates being so easy to understand. We all enjoyed this experience immensely and feel very lucky to have been able to understand the amazing work the RAF does for our country. Thank you RAF!
