Ide Hill CE School Curriculum Intent
Our Curriculum has been designed with our Christian Vision and core values at its heart: respect, love and responsibility. We are proud of our inclusive environment, which is firmly rooted in a shared Christian ethos and fosters the care and nurture of our school community. As a school, in partnership with parents and carers, we strive to build strong foundations for an excellent education. We enable our children to achieve all of their potential by inspiring them and promoting opportunities to delight in their learning as well as allowing them to grow into successful, compassionate, young adults who recognise their role in the community and the ever-changing wider world. We aim to accomplish this through a loving, structured and joyful environment with consistently high standards of teaching. Our engaging and immersive learning is based upon the National Curriculum (2014), developed from a love of reading and reflects our school's unique circumstances. We make the most of our beautiful location ensuring that all pupils have regular opportunities to learn outdoors and appreciate the surrounding beauty. This brave, broad and rich curriculum motivates all of our children to build concepts, skills and knowledge for life. They become curious learners who are led by enquiry and inspired by a range of real-life experiences and cultural enrichment.

At Ide Hill Church of England Primary School we seek the ‘abundant life’ that Jesus promised for all. Pupils, staff and families flourish within the caring community of our beautiful village. All are nurtured through the learning and experiencing of respect, responsibility and love, ‘and the greatest of these is love.’
Our curriculum meets the aims of the National Curriculum through ensuring that learning opportunities are coherently planned and sequenced to give all pupils the knowledge and skills they need to transition successfully to the next stage of their education. It also establishes firm foundations for pupils to confidently make a positive contribution to society.
As a basis, we follow the requirements set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2. In addition, as Church of England school, we follow the Locally Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education supported by the Diocese of Rochester materials.
These statutory requirements are just part of our wider curriculum which aims to provide a genuinely broad, balanced and engaging curriculum that will support the whole child, their moral, spiritual, social and cultural development and enable and inspire children to make a positive contribution to their local and wider community.
Our Curriculum is ambitious and tailored specifically to the needs of our pupils in the following ways:
- We are a small, distinctively Christian school and we know our children and families well. Our nurturing environment means that we can be responsive to children’s interests, aspirations and needs.
- We aim to maximise and continuously improve opportunities and outcomes for our pupils with additional and medical needs as outlined in our Accessibility Plan.
- We are ambitious for all children. Our curriculum provides challenge and support to ensure our children make good progress and achieve highly.
- We foster a sense of community, loving our local and global neighbours “as we love ourselves”.
- Empower children to become responsible and independent learners through their many responsibilities, high expectations and growth mindset to learning.
- We are a silver Rights Respecting School. We encourage children to recognise the “ows and wows” of life, to respect difference in the world and encourage to be courageous advocates for change.
- We encouraging our children to believe in themselves, take pride in their achievements and develop their resilience to challenges.
