Remembrance
This year, the school celebrated “Love through Remembrance” with many children and families contributing their memories and prayers to our display on the school gates.
Oaks children led the whole school in an Act of Remembrance where the children remembered the soldiers from around the Commonwealth who helped fight during World War One.
Year 6 had written their own ‘rondeau’, a French poem, as this is the type of poem ‘In Flanders Field’ is.
They also wrote a sonnet, as this is the form of poem ‘The Dead’ by Rupert Brooke is. They studied the syllable pattern and the rhyming schemes to make their poems successful and poignant.
